Island in the Sky - PrintThe island in the sky is a camping area just west of town near Moab, UT. While I was in school in Colorado, we would head down to Moab all the time to mountain bike and camp. The Island in the Sky is one of the most amazing camp sites I have ever experienced. The red rocks tower over soft sand on the edge of a cliff band. The view of the La Sal mountain range is completely unobstructed. Watching the full moon rise over the mountains casting light on

Especially when working with black and white

in all of my years hiking in Tahoe and Colorado

a place I've come to know well over these past 6 years

often surfacing into a rowdy Sugar Magnolia

I tried to incorporate some of those things into this portrait

I tried to focus on those spaces in-between with this drawing
