Hoe I Ka LāOctober 2023 14 karat gold, pearl, diamonds "Hoe I Ka L" means "paddling into the sun" in lelo Hawaii (the Hawaiian Language). Here, a 9mm orangey peach pearl dramatically perched on the corner of the ring is a glorious firey orb emerging from below the horizon, as nine diamond paddlers steer their canoe straight into the sunrise.

The entire piece evolved from the forehead/nose plate

The first layouts that I did were in the same order as shown

The earrings were built free-form in 3D space using a micro TIG welder and some pre-cut basic lengths of iron wire

We placed a tiny diamond below the central sapphire between each pair of antlers to represent the shed spreader in a traditional antler mounting

A friend came to me for a Mother's Day gift for his wife that would speak to her AAPI ancestry as well as to their daughter
