The Saddest Girl | Full Plate Framed TintypeI was very inspired by the exhibition of hand painted tintypes few years ago at the MFA and I guess it took me all this time to find one I thought was as good. This full plate, Civil War era portrait of a little girl is one of the saddest I have seen Her downcast expression and loosely clasped hands really speak to me. I love the thick, wavy paint applied to the background; it really makes her pop. The dealer I got her from told me, She was my baby.

but there are three pages with locks of hair

The entire back is taken up by a paphiopedilum (slipper) orchid with a sweet little cattleya on the handle
