Longevity Pendantcirca 1988 Jadeite, sterling silver The character on the band that goes across the piece is a stylized version of the ancient Chinese character for longevity, (shu)this version of the character dates to right before Small Seal script was developed in the Qin dynasty. The band is connected to a silver disc that covers the entire back of the piece.

since I was making a jeweler's tool that also happened to be a piece of Judaica

and created a repeating two-level relief of a skull and a chrysanthemum-like flower joined by a floral vine

and signifies that while adversity may bend her out of shape it will never break her bond with God
