The Hon. Francis William Grant of Grant, Colonel of the Inverness-shire Militia by John Kay (1804)Original engraving of Francis William Grant (1778 1853), of Castle Grant, Elgin, Scotland. He was a Colonel in the Inverness militia from 1803 to 1813, after serving in commissions in Ireland in 1798 and at Gibraltar in 1800 1. He served in parliament from 1802 to April of 1840, representing a range of constituencies. Grant continued his fathers work of local improvement and was reputedly the greatest exponent of afforestation in Scotland in the 19th
